Are you planning to start a Duolingo course and wondering, “How many sections and units does my language have?” If yes, don’t worry — you’re in the right place.
Here’s the quick answer: Most Duolingo courses have anywhere from 1 to 8 sections, depending on the language you choose.
In this blog post, I’ll walk you through how many sections and units each language has, and I’ll also explain how Duolingo’s sections line up with the CEFR levels.
So… how many sections (Levels) does Duolingo actually have?
Well, it really depends on the language you’re learning.
Most courses fall somewhere between 1 to 8 sections, and there’s also a Daily Refresh area, which some people call an extra section, but honestly, I just see it as a refresher rather than a real section.
Larger courses, like Spanish, French, or German, usually have more sections. Smaller courses, such as Navajo or High Valyrian, often have fewer.
For example:
Spanish and French have 8 sections
Navajo has just 1 section, and High Valyrian has only 2.
Each section is made of multiple units, and each unit has several lessons.

Yes, it’s surprising! Greek has fewer sections, but those 95 units still pack in a lot of learning. Duolingo often structures courses differently based on the language.
Ukrainian only has 2 sections, plus a very short third review section.
Thanks for your feedback! We know the Ukrainian section is short, and we’ll update this article soon to add more content.
I was surprised to find out that Greek only has 3 sections.with 95 units.
