Quick Answer
The Duolingo Diamond Tournament is a 3-week XP competition for Diamond League players.
To get in, you just need to finish Top 10 in an active week. Then you’ll move through: Quarterfinals → Semifinals → Finals.
The top 3 winners earn gems, a 30-minute XP Boost, and a special winner banner.
Have you ever reached the Diamond League on Duolingo and thought, “Okay… now what’s this Diamond Tournament, and how do I even get into it?”
If that sounds like you, trust me, you’re not the only one.
Lots of learners hit the Diamond League and still feel confused about what the Diamond Tournament actually is and how it all works.
Good news? In this blog post, I’m going to break down everything about the Duolingo Diamond Tournament in the simplest way possible.
So let’s jump right in!
What Is the Duolingo Diamond Tournament?
So, what exactly is this Diamond Tournament everyone keeps talking about?
The Duolingo Diamond Tournament is a special 3-week competition made only for Diamond League players.
Yep — it’s exclusive to Diamond players.

If you’re not in the Diamond League yet, you could stop reading… but honestly, I think you should stick around. 😊
Once you make it to Diamond League, this guide will help you understand what this tournament is all about.
If you are already in Diamond, here’s what to know:
The Diamond Tournament runs for three full weeks, and each week is one stage of the competition:
- Quarterfinals – where everyone starts
- Semifinals – only the top learners from Week 1 make it
- Finals – the toughest week of all
Each stage gets harder because only the most consistent and active learners move ahead.
By the time you reach the Finals, things get very competitive. In the end, only three players make it to the winners’ podium.
How does the Diamond Tournament Works?
Alright, so how does this Tournament actually work? Let’s break it down in the easiest way possible.

#1. First, you have to qualify
To get into the Diamond Tournament, you need to finish your Diamond League week in the Top 10, but only when it’s an active tournament week.
- If you see a banner saying “Top 10 qualify for the Tournament”, that’s your signal.
- If you don’t see the banner, then it’s not a tournament week.
#2. The Tournament has 3 rounds
Once you qualify, the tournament lasts for three weeks:
- Quarterfinals
- Semifinals
- Finals
Every round has one rule: earn as much XP as you can.
#3. Fall behind? You’re out
Every week, a certain number of players get eliminated.
If your XP is too low and you drop toward the bottom, you’ll get knocked out and won’t move on to the next round.
Simple rule:
- Stay active = move forward
- Fall behind = eliminated
#4. The Final Week decides everything
The Finals are intense. Only the top 3 XP earners become winners.
Those three players finish the tournament with the highest XP and earn the title of Diamond Tournament Winner.
How to Qualify for the Diamond Tournament?
Qualifying isn’t super complicated, but you do have to earn your spot, and honestly, that part can feel a little tough.
Step 1: Get to the Diamond League
Your first job is reaching the Diamond League. Think of it as your ticket into the Tournament.
If you’re not in Diamond yet, the Tournament won’t even appear for you.
Step 2: Watch for the banner
As I said earlier, the Tournament doesn’t run every week. Keep an eye out for the banner at the top of your leaderboard. You’ll see one of these:
- “Top 10 qualify for the Tournament” – This is a tournament week.
- “The next Tournament begins soon” – No tournament this week.
Step 3: Finish the week in the Top 10
Once you know it’s a tournament week, your goal is simple:
- Stay in the Top 10 of your Diamond League leaderboard.
- It doesn’t matter if you finish 1st or 10th.
Step 4: That’s it — you’re in
If you end the week in the Top 10, Duolingo will automatically place you in the next Tournament stage.
- All you need to do is keep earning XP.
Let’s Break Down the 3 Rounds
The Tournament lasts for three weeks and has three stages. Here’s what each one looks like:
1. Quarterfinals (Week 1)
Everyone starts here.
This first week is usually the easiest because there are more players and the scores aren’t too wild yet.
Your goal:
- Stay active
- Don’t drop to the bottom
Survive the week –> you move to the Semifinals.
2. Semifinals (Week 2)
Now things get a little more serious. The casual players are gone, and the remaining learners are more consistent.
XP climbs higher, and the pace gets faster.
Your goal:
- Keep up
- Avoid long breaks
Survive this week –> you’re in the Finals.
3. Finals (Week 3)
This is the big one — the last week of the Tournament.
Only the most dedicated players make it here, and the XP race gets intense. At the end of the week, Duolingo crowns the top 3 XP earners as winners.
Your goal:
- Push your hardest
- Aim for that winner badge 😄
Here’s What You Get If You Win
Alright, let’s talk about the fun part — the rewards. (Winning this tournament is my dream too… maybe one day! 😄)

1. Gems
If you win this tournament, you’ll get a nice bundle of gems. And honestly… who doesn’t love more gems in Duolingo?
You can use them to buy all the good stuff such as hearts, streak freezes, XP boosts, and more.
2. Exclusive Profile Banner
You’ll also unlock a special bluish-purple trophy banner in the league section of your profile. It’s Duolingo’s way of saying, “Look at you! You totally crushed it.”
If you want to stand out on the leaderboard, this is one of the coolest ways to do it.
3. A 30-Minute XP Boost
As a winner, you’ll get a 30-minute XP Boost. It’s perfect for leveling up even faster once the tournament ends. Great for days when you want to relax but still keep your XP moving up.
4. A Notification for Your Followers
And yep, your friends and followers will get a little notification letting them know you are the champion. It’s a fun way to show off your hard work. 😀

One question: if you get kicked out of the Diamond League tournament, are you kicked out of the Diamond League?
Good question! No, being kicked out of the tournament doesn’t mean you’re out of the Diamond League.
no
I made the finals in the diamond tournament several weeks ago, but about a week ago the banner for my profile dropped off and it’s not on the list of available banners. Does it last for a while then drops off automatically?
Congrats on making the finals, Jesse! 🏆 The banner is usually available for a limited time and then drops off automatically. Hope that helps!
Is there any actual schedule of the DLT? I won DL last week, no upgrade to DLT, this week nothing again and when checking DL for next week, no signs again – did you remove it or only those in top 10 see the message during the week or the message about DLT appears during the week? It is kinda boring to repeat DL over and over – looses the competitive spirit.
Thanx
The Diamond League Tournament (DLT) isn’t available every week, and not all DL winners qualify. If you don’t see an upgrade, the tournament may not be running or you weren’t selected. Invitations usually appear during the week if eligible. Hope this helps!
How often does the diamond tournament start?
The Diamond Tournament starts every few weeks. When it’s on, you’ll see “Top 10 qualify for the Tournament” on your leaderboard. It runs for 3 weeks, then takes a break before the next one.
This is the second time I have been in the Diamond Tournament. My first week, I was number one. I got nothing. I was surprised. Today, I am number 10 in the second week. In the third week, if I am not the first three, do I get any reward to show? What does it look like? Being number one, the first week, gave me nothing. I think that is unfair.
Hi Ray! Just so you know, the first two weeks don’t show any rewards, even if you finish at #1. Those weeks are only to decide who makes it to the final week. The real rewards come in the last week, like winner badges for the top players and gems.
How many weeks do I need to play in the Diamond League to receive a message about this tournament.
If I make it to the top 10 of the tournament, will the Diamond Banner be available on my profile?
Hi! 👋
You’ll usually get the Diamond Tournament message after playing in the Diamond League for about 2–3 weeks. And yes — if you make it to the top 10, the Diamond Banner will stay on your profile permanently once you set it. 🏆
why does my server only allow 8 player in stead of 10? is it a new update?
Duolingo hasn’t changed the Diamond Tournament rules — it should still be Top 10. If you only see 8 players, it’s likely a bug, a test in your area, or a display error. Hopefully the next update fixes it. 👍
the banner only lasted a few weeks for me🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
